Heirloom Garden Show August 26

The 29th Annual Heirloom Garden Show will be held Sunday August 26 at Garfield Farm Museum. This annual event features historic varieties of vegetables, fruits, and flowers that were passed down from one generation to the next.

The exhibit is to help make the public aware of the great diversity of plant varieties that raised for generations are now in danger of becoming extinct. These historic genes maybe the very solution in this era of genetic engineering to help provide a more vigorous variety, overcome new diseases that arise, lower cost of production or most importantly provide good flavor and nutritious value..

A preview of the work in progress of the 1906 dairy barn's preservation will be on view. Tours of the 1846 tavern will be ongoing as well as tours of the antique flower garden, the heirloom vegetable garden and the prairie restoration.

Last minute exhibitors or volunteers are welcome. Call 630 584-8485.
